As a vocational rehabilitation counselor in northern Vermont, Benjamin J. Morley thought training would help him do his job better. Instead, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) trainer imposed her ideology about “equity, privilege, racism, identity, family, politics and spiritual beliefs,” he writes on Substack.

The facilitator told the state employees they were “racists,” writes Morley, but said “we could become more open minded and tolerant -— all we needed to do was adopt this new set of beliefs.”

After the training, Morley stopped seeing people as individuals and began to “view others based on immutable characteristics and stereotypes.” He thought that was wrong.

Morley spoke up about the training and wrote about his experience. He was threatened with termination, he claims.

He’s filed a lawsuit against the State of Vermont charging a hostile work environment and ” unconstitutional religious and political indoctrination.”

The population in Orleans County, Vermont is 96.1 percent white, according to the Census, and less than 1 percent black.
